who is lloydie? Lloydie grew up by the seaside in the sleepy seaside resort of Eastbourne. At the age of ten his parents decided to get rid of the family television set for the Summer and little Lloydie had to look for another medium to entertain him. It was listening to the radio in the evening of that 80s Summer that made him want to work in radio. He's never lost that passion since. At Bournemouth University he learned to drink and gained a BA (Hons) in Media Production. After a stint as a producer for Classic FM and a small stint back in Bournemouth at 2CRFM, he moved to Bristol to do evenings at Galaxy 101. While there he played 'Twister' with Justin Timberlake, achieved the highest ever ratings the station had ever got in the evening and met a bloke called Dan Morrissey who would be someone he happened upon again later in his career. In 1999 Lloydie moved back to Bournemouth to get involved in the setting up of a new radio station called The NRG, which later became known as FIRE. He was the head of music for the first 3 years of the station's life and started off on the afternoon drive show before moving to the coveted breakfast slot. 'Lloydie's Morning Glory', the breakfast show he conceived and anchored, more than doubled the market share for the station in that time slot. When the management at Fire decided to change elements of the show, Lloydie decided it was probably time, after 3 great years, to make a move up to better things. Rival station 2CRFM had been talking with him for a while and after a lot of thought Lloydie took the plunge and moved to the station he had previously been charged with taking audience away from. When Lloydie moved to 2CRFM it had the least number of listeners in it's 21 year history. He worked hard on arrival to surpass his successes in the mornings at FIRE. Within a year he was nominated for the prestigious 'Best Breakfast Show' award at the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2003. When management decided they wanted something new at breakfast in 2004 Lloydie departed having given the station it's best breakfast show ratings in nearly 3 years. In May 2004 Lloydie moved to do the drivetime show at 103.2 Power FM, the commercial station for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. In June 2005 he joined forces with Dan Morrissey, who he worked with at Galaxy and FIRE, to present a new Saturday morning show called 'Lloydie and Dan's Saturday Asylum'. In it's first set of ratings it increased the audience to Power on Saturday by 56% and overtook Radio One! What's next? Well a quick sit down and and Jack Daniels would be nice! |
