lloydie

introduction

Lloydie grew up by the seaside in the sleepy  seaside resort of Eastbourne. At the age of ten his parents decided  to get rid of the family television set for the Summer and little  Lloydie had to look for another medium to entertain him. It was  listening to the radio in the evening of that 80s Summer that made  him want to work in radio. He's never lost that passion since.

At Bournemouth University he learned to drink  and gained a BA (Hons) in Media Production. Lloydie's first fulltime presenting job was in Bristol on evenings at Galaxy 101. While there he played  'Twister' with Justin Timberlake, got a lift from Aqua (remember Barbie Girl) across the Severn Bridge and met a bloke called Dan  Morrissey who would be someone he happened upon again later in his  career.
In 1999 Lloydie moved back to Bournemouth to  get involved in the setting up of a new radio station called The  NRG, which later became known as FIRE. He was the head of music  for the first 3 years of the station's life and started off on the  afternoon drive show before moving to the coveted breakfast slot.

'Lloydie's Morning Glory', the breakfast show  he conceived and anchored, more than doubled the market share for  the station in that time slot but when rival station in town, 2CR FM, offered him a new creative challenge, he decided, sadly, it was time to move on.

When Lloydie moved to 2CRFM it was under threat in the ratings.  Within a year, however, ratings were up and  he was nominated for the prestigious 'Best Breakfast Show' award  at the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2003.

In May 2004 Lloydie moved to do the drivetime  show at 103.2 Power FM, the commercial station for Hampshire and  the Isle of Wight. In June 2005 he joined forces with Dan Morrissey,  who he worked with at Galaxy and FIRE, to present a new Saturday  morning show called 'Lloydie and Dan's Saturday Asylum'. In it's  first set of ratings it increased the audience to Power on Saturday  by 56% and overtook Radio One!

In 2007 Lloydie made a move into management and, for a year, ran the programming department of 2CR FM.  He had great fun back at his former station but knew in his heart that he loved performing too much to make this a permanent move so in October 2008 he joined Trent FM in Nottingham as their afternoon presenter.  You can hear him weekdays 1-4pm and weekdays 8am-midday.
